Food for the Holidays

Let’s set a bountiful table for all.

The tradition of preparing and enjoying a holiday meal with friends and family is one that is shared by people from all cultures and backgrounds.

To be inclusive and respectful of all traditions, we provide families with supermarket gift cards so they can choose their preferred meal items. This year the Greater Boston Food Bank will not be providing a donation of these supermarket gift cards so we need $30,000 to buy them for 1,200 families who will visit us in November.

Will you donate $20, $30 or $40 for a supermarket gift card so a family can have a holiday meal? We’d be grateful if you did.

Donate Supermarket Gift Cards

We provide supermarket gift cards in denominations of $10 and $20. Every gift card counts, because it will go directly to a family in November.

When you are at the check-out line at the supermarket, you might see a request for a donation for a bag of canned and dry food to be given to a family. Instead, consider purchasing gift card, so that family can choose the main course and fresh food that they want. Groups can help, too. For example:

  • A community could decorate a small “giving tree” with colorful cardboard gift cards every time a member donates one in.

  • A business can match the amount of all the gift cards donated by employees or customers.

If you’re interested or want to drop off a gift card when we’re open, contact our Executive Director

“Since Centre Street began, we’ve given families a supermarket gift card plus a big bag of fresh vegetables and pie. This year, we can’t do this without help.”
